Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a psychotherapeutic approach founded by Albert Ellis in the 1950s. It is based on the premise that individuals are not solely affected by events but by their beliefs and interpretations of those events. REBT emphasizes identifying and challenging irrational beliefs that lead to negative emotions and maladaptive behaviours. The ABC model is a fundamental concept in REBT. Through this model, individuals are taught to recognize the impact of their beliefs on their emotional reactions. The therapy encourages clients to accept that they cannot control every aspect of life but can control their reactions and beliefs. REBT is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy that is particularly effective in treating conditions such as anxiety, depression, and anger issues.
